Employee Spotlight: Alex Bell, Implementation Specialist

Alex Bell is one of MirrorWeb's longest-serving team members, nearly eight years and a few roles in. With the Red Oak merger opening up a new chapter, we thought it was the perfect time to catch up with him.

You’ve been at MirrorWeb a long time, what does your role look like today and how has it evolved?

I’ve been at MirrorWeb for nearly eight years now. I started out in the Web QA department where training consisted of a few scribbled notes on a pad of paper. That was the entire training manual. It wasn’t the most complex process in the world, but it was a world away from my previous life pulling pints and making cocktails.

Today my role spans technical implementation across MirrorWeb’s full product suite, documentation, internal training, and client relationship management - a long way from a pad of scribbled notes.

What’s a recent win you’re especially proud of?

Probably my adoption of Claude. I was unsure at first how AI could actually help in my role, but a bit of thought quickly surfaced parts of my job I could streamline, plus some blind spots that weren’t being addressed day to day. One example is a dashboard I built with Claude that pulls together information I’d normally have to check across three or four different platforms, now it’s all in one place.

That project got me thinking bigger. I’m now looking at how I can automate or improve existing processes in ways that save time and money across the whole team, not just for me. It’s helped me organise my workload better and increased my efficiency when onboarding clients.

Looking back, which MirrorWeb value has stuck with you most, and why?

Probably “Own the outcome.” If a client or colleague comes to me with a question, I make sure they get the answer they need, and I’m always happy to go above and beyond to get a situation resolved. I think it matters, especially in tricky situations, to not go looking for someone else to blame. Instead you take responsibility, own the outcome, and see it through to the end.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

Probably working with clients directly and delivering a standard of service and a product they’re genuinely happy with. Seeing or hearing a client’s surprise at how smooth onboarding can be is always rewarding, that “oh, well that was easy” reaction, followed by “this all seems very straightforward.” That’s exactly the reaction we’re looking for.

A great product paired with great customer service means a happy client.

As we move into this next chapter with Red Oak, what excites you most?

In the short term, I’m excited to learn some new products and think about how we can give clients a broader, more complete solution. I’m also excited to see how the business evolves during such a fast-paced and innovative time for the industry.

Compliance Software in financial services has felt pretty stagnant for decades, slow to move alongside the technology around it. MirrorWeb came into that space as a bit of a disruptor, and now we’re seeing others join the race while the old guard falls behind. It’s exciting to think about how we compete from here, and hopefully become best in class for financial compliance, full stop.
